Choir
Practices are on most Sunday afternoons in the main auditorium at 4pm.
Our three main goals as a church; to love God, to love others, and to love God’s Word; are exemplified in our weekly times of corporate singing, choir numbers, and the special musical productions throughout the year. Every week, we hope to be a blessing to our church and our community by performing music that …
1. Centers around God being the number one focus of our attention, taking His rightful place in our hearts and minds.
2. Shows the many distinctions between the Christ-centered life of those who are saved and the self-centered life of those who have not accepted Christ as their Savior.
3. Reflects the message of hope that runs through all of Scripture, culminating in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
There are many passages in Scripture that give weight to the important position music and worship in general holds in our relationship with God. There are three that highlight important aspects of Scriptural worship that are listed below.
1. [Romans 15:1-13] – Christ must be the center of our worship, as He should be the center of everything that we do. He is the first and last hope of Jews and Gentiles alike. Music that shares the joy and peace that we can gain through Jesus is what we desire to focus on singing. Christ became a servant for the sakes of every person in the world, those we would call good and bad. We worship not only for our own hearts but also to tell others of this, the great Savior has come, and completed the work needed to save them. Our music must reflect this message of hope.
a. Our music must reflect the message of hope that is centered around Jesus, the Savior of all people.
2. [Ephesians 5:1-20] – Our worship must be filled with the Spirit. Therefore, our songs can never disagree with the doctrines established in God’s Word. Instead, we must be careful to worship in a way that humbles the self and glorifies God. God’s love must be our example by which we live every aspect of our life, this includes how we worship in music.
a. Our music must be filled with Scriptural teachings told in a humble and loving tone, to never get in the way of the Spirit of God.
3. [Colossians 3:1-17] – There is a change that occurs in the heart of a person when they believe in the saving work of Jesus Christ, and they become saved. The old things (desires, interests, habits, etc.) that characterized this person before their conversion and tied them to their former, unsaved identity are thrown away by the Holy Spirit, as He comes to inhabit the soul of the Christian. Music that shows this contrast of the old and new man (before and after salvation) is crucial in not only reminding Christians of the wonderful work that God has done in their lives but also in being a testimony to those who have not believed. Our worship must include music that showcases all that God has done for the Christian. (17) – “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
a. Our music must focus on the changing power of God, turning away from our old selves and turning towards our new, Christ-like selves that we can only attain if we trust in the Saving power of Jesus.
